Working with our brand marketing and editorial teams, I created various print ad designs for both the Emmys Award show and Elton John's Aid Foundation Event utilizing IMDb's What to Watch initiative. For the Emmys one page print ad, I kept the design clean and simple using a new design the brand marketing team was pushing across multiple paid ads for brand recognition.
For the Elton John's Aid Foundation design, we had a full spread therefore we wanted to do something fun with the space we had. We sent out a company-wide email to all of IMDb's staff to come up with three words that best described a movie or tv show that someone would be able to guess just by seeing the words. The idea of this ad was that if you aren't sure what the title is, you can use IMDb's Watch to Watch feature to find out the title. We narrowed it down to three different titles, and I came up with a few different designs on how to present the words while also tying it all back to our What to Watch page for further title exploration.
I used Illustrator to create all print ad designs, and InDesign for the internal presentation I created for our brand marketing and leadership teams. Both the Emmys and Elton John ad were very quick turnarounds. For Elton John I had two days for everything: email the staff for title ideas, work with the editorial team to narrow down the submissions to three titles, design multiple versions of the print ad, present to brand marketing and leadership for approvals, and final file delivery for print.
